Lätta is a well-known brand of low-fat spread that originated in Sweden in 1984, developed by Unilever. The name 'Lätta' is Swedish for 'light'. It was specifically designed to provide a lower-fat alternative to butter while maintaining a fresh taste. Over the decades, it became a staple in European markets, particularly in Germany and the Nordic countries.
For much of its history, Lätta was part of Unilever's massive food portfolio. However, in 2018, Unilever sold its spreads division to KKR, a global investment firm. This led to the creation of Upfield, which now owns and operates the brand. Today, Lätta is produced in various facilities across Europe to serve its primary markets, emphasizing recipes that often exclude palm oil and focus on plant-based ingredients.
