Hell Pizza is a prominent New Zealand-based pizza delivery chain known for its unconventional and irreverent marketing strategies. Founded in Wellington in 1996, the brand quickly distinguished itself through its 'Seven Deadly Sins' themed menu and high-quality, gourmet ingredients compared to traditional fast-food pizza chains.
The brand has undergone several ownership changes since its inception. In 2006, the franchise rights for New Zealand were sold to Tasman Pacific Foods (the then-master franchisee of Burger King in NZ), but the original founders eventually bought the New Zealand business back in 2009. This move allowed the founders to regain creative control and realign the brand with its original edgy identity.
Today, Hell Pizza remains a proudly New Zealander-owned and operated entity. While it once attempted international expansion into markets like the UK, Ireland, and Canada, its core operations and manufacturing—specifically the preparation of its unique dough and sourcing of toppings—are centered in New Zealand, where it maintains a significant market presence as a premium alternative in the quick-service restaurant sector.
