DB Breweries Beer

DB Breweries is one of New Zealand's most storied brewing companies. Founded in 1930 as Dominion Breweries, the company was established by Sir Henry Kelliher and W. J. Coutts with the opening of the Waitemata Brewery in Otahuhu, Auckland. For decades, it has been a cornerstone of the New Zealand beverage industry, producing iconic local brands such as DB Export, Tui, and Monteith's.

Starting in the late 20th century, the company underwent significant ownership changes as the global beer market consolidated. In the early 1990s, the Dutch brewing giant Heineken N.V. acquired a minority stake, which eventually led to a joint venture with Asia Pacific Breweries. By 2012, Heineken gained full control of the entity, integrating DB Breweries into its vast international network.

Today, DB Breweries operates several brewing sites throughout New Zealand, including major facilities in Auckland, Timaru, and the Monteith’s brewery in Greymouth. While it remains a proud New Zealand-based operator producing beverages locally for the domestic market, it is fully owned and managed as a subsidiary of Heineken, the world's second-largest brewer headquartered in Amsterdam.
