Tuatara Brewing is a pioneer of the New Zealand craft beer movement, founded in 2000 by Carl Vasta on the Kapiti Coast. The brand is well-known for its distinctive bottle design, which features a texture mimicking the scales of the Tuatara, a prehistoric reptile native to New Zealand. This unique branding, combined with high-quality hops, has made it a staple in the Oceanic craft beer scene.

In 2017, the brewery was acquired by DB Breweries, which is a major subsidiary of the Dutch brewing giant Heineken N.V. Despite this acquisition, Tuatara maintains its regional roots, with production continuing in New Zealand. Today, the brand operates as part of Heineken's extensive global portfolio, leveraging professional distribution networks while maintaining its craft identity and heritage.
