The Heritage of Wharfedale

Wharfedale is one of the world's most legendary audio brands, established in 1932 by Gilbert Briggs in the Wharfe Valley, Yorkshire, UK. Since its inception, the brand has been at the forefront of loudspeaker technology, pioneering several innovations that defined modern high-fidelity audio. The brand built a reputation for high-quality British engineering and acoustic performance that remains a hallmark of its identity today.

Manufacturing and Global Expansion

While the brand maintains its British heritage and design center in the United Kingdom, manufacturing transitioned significant portions of its production to China following its acquisition by the International Audio Group (IAG). The majority of Wharfedale's modern speaker lines are manufactured in a massive 5-million-square-foot vertical integration facility in Jiangxi Province, China. This facility allows for the in-house production of almost every component, from the wood cabinets to the voice coils and cones.

Ownership and Corporate Structure

Today, Wharfedale is a core brand under the International Audio Group (IAG). IAG is a major player in the global consumer electronics industry, headquartered in Shenzhen, China, with its UK base in Huntingdon. The group was founded by the Chang brothers and has acquired several iconic British audio brands, ensuring that Wharfedale continues to benefit from both classic British acoustic design expertise and modern, large-scale manufacturing capabilities.
