Hurley was founded in 1979 by Bob Hurley in Costa Mesa, California. Originally established as Hurley Surfboards, the brand eventually transitioned into a major lifestyle and surf-wear apparel label in the late 1990s. The brand gained immense global popularity for its boardshorts and association with action sports and youth culture.
In 2002, the brand was acquired by Nike, Inc., which helped expand its global reach significantly. However, in late 2019, Nike sold Hurley to Bluestar Alliance LLC, a brand management firm. Under current ownership, the manufacturing is outsourced to a global network of partners, with production occurring in various countries across Asia and South America. The brand remains a staple in the surf and lifestyle clothing markets.
