Pampero is a renowned Venezuelan rum brand founded in 1938 by Alejandro Hernández and Luis Caballero. It is credited with establishing the premium rum category in Venezuela by being the first rum in the country to be aged for at least two years and achieve the 'Añejo' designation. The brand is famous for its 'Pampero Aniversario' bottle, which is traditionally presented in a distinctive leather pouch.
While the brand was originally independent, it was eventually acquired by International Distillers & Vintners (IDV), which later merged into the global beverage giant Diageo. As of 2024, the brand is owned by the Gruppo Montenegro, an Italian spirits company that acquired it from Diageo to expand its international premium spirits portfolio. Despite the change in ownership, production continues to be rooted in Venezuela to maintain its authentic flavor profile and Geographical Indication.
