Kent is one of the world's most recognizable premium cigarette brands, originally introduced by the Lorillard Tobacco Company in the United States in 1952. It gained international fame for its 'Micronite' filter and has since evolved into a global brand with a presence in dozens of markets.
Direct ownership of the brand is now split globally. In the United States, it is owned by R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company (a subsidiary of British American Tobacco), while international rights—including the distribution and manufacturing for the Romanian market—belong to British American Tobacco (BAT).
In Romania, Kent is frequently manufactured locally at the British American Tobacco factory in Ploiești, which is one of the group's most significant production hubs in Europe. The brand continues to operate under the umbrella of British American Tobacco, which is headquartered in the United Kingdom and remains one of the largest multi-category consumer goods businesses in the tobacco industry.
