Daiya is a leading brand in the plant-based food industry, best known for its dairy-free cheese alternatives. Founded in 2008 in Vancouver, Canada, by Andre Kroecher and Greg Blake, the brand quickly became a staple for vegans and those with lactose intolerance due to its innovative melting properties. The products are primarily manufactured at Daiya's state-of-the-art facility in Burnaby, British Columbia, ensuring high quality and consistency across their global distribution network.
In 2017, the brand underwent a significant ownership change when it was acquired by Otsuka Pharmaceutical, a Japanese healthcare giant. This acquisition provided Daiya with the resources to expand its product line and international reach while maintaining its focus on allergen-friendly and plant-based nutrition. Today, Daiya continues to operate as a stand-alone subsidiary under Otsuka, leading the market with various products including blocks, shreds, slices, and prepared frozen meals.
