MINI is an iconic British automotive marque, founded in 1959 by the British Motor Corporation (BMC). The brand became a cultural icon of the 1960s with its space-saving transverse engine layout and front-wheel-drive configuration, designed by Sir Alec Issigonis.
Today, the brand is owned by the German automotive giant BMW Group, which acquired the brand as part of the Rover Group in 1994 and retained it when shifting other assets. While the brand has deep British roots and its primary production facility remains Plant Oxford in the United Kingdom, manufacturing also takes place in other locations such as the Netherlands and Germany to meet global demand.
The ultimate ownership lies with BMW (Bayerische Motoren Werke AG), headquartered in Munich, Germany. BMW has successfully modernized the MINI brand into a premium small car range that retains the distinct design language of the original 1950s models while incorporating modern performance and technology.
