Almdudler is often referred to as the national drink of Austria. It was originally created by Erwin Klein in 1957 as a non-alcoholic alternative to beer or wine. The name 'Almdudler' is derived from the phrase 'auf der Alm dudeln,' which translates roughly to 'yodeling on the Alpine pasture.' This herbal soda is famous for its unique blend of 32 Alpine herbs, including lemon balm, sage, gentian, and elderflower.

The brand remains a family-owned enterprise, currently managed by the Klein family under the company Almdudler Limonade A. & S. Klein GmbH & Co KG. While the original production and essence are deeply rooted in Austria, the brand has grown significantly, exporting to dozens of countries globally and engaging in licensing agreements for international distribution. Despite its international reach, the core production remains centralized in its home country to maintain the distinct flavor profile associated with Austrian quality.
