Wharfedale is one of the most storied names in British audio, founded by Gilbert Briggs in 1932 in Yorkshire, England. For decades, it was a pioneer in loudspeaker technology, contributing significantly to the development of the high-fidelity (Hi-Fi) market in the UK.
While the brand maintains its British heritage and design engineering team in the United Kingdom, production has shifted over the years. Since the late 1990s, Wharfedale has been owned by the IAG Group (International Audio Group). Consequently, manufacturing is primarily centered at IAG's vertically integrated purpose-built factory in Shenzhen, China. This ensures that while the acoustic engineering remains rooted in British tradition, the products are manufactured in China under the parent company's direct supervision.
