Licor Beirão herbal liqueur

Licor Beirão is widely known as the national liqueur of Portugal. Its origins date back to the 19th century in Lousã, where it was initially produced as a medicinal remedy in a local pharmacy. The secret recipe involving a double distillation of seeds and herbs from around the world (including eucalyptus, cinnamon, and rosemary) has remained largely unchanged for generations.

The brand was catapulted to national fame by José Carranca Redondo, who purchased the recipe and factory in 1940. He was a pioneer in Portuguese advertising, using creative marketing strategies that made 'O Licor de Portugal' a household name. Today, the brand remains a family-owned enterprise, produced and bottled exclusively in Quinta do Meiral in Lousã, Portugal, under the stewardship of the Redondo family's company, J. Carranca Redondo Lda.
