Nando's PERi-PERI sauce is a global culinary icon that originated in Johannesburg, South Africa, in 1987. Founded by Fernando Duarte and Robbie Brozin, the brand was inspired by the traditional Portuguese-African Bird's Eye chili (Peri-Peri) recipes popular in Mozambique. The sauce has become the foundation of their worldwide restaurant chain and retail product line.

While the brand's cultural and spiritual home remains South Africa, the bottled retail sauces sold in Europe and many international markets are primarily manufactured in the Netherlands to facilitate global distribution.
