5 Euro banknote

The 5 Euro banknote is the smallest denomination of the euro currency, introduced in 2002. It is used across the Eurozone, which consists of multiple European Union member states. The currency was designed by Robert Kalina and later updated by Reinhold Gerststetter as part of the Europa series. Unlike commercial products, currency is issued by a central authority rather than a private corporation.

The production of Euro banknotes is a collaborative effort. The European Central Bank (ECB) has the exclusive right to authorize the issuance of banknotes, but they are physically produced by the national central banks (NCBs) within the Eurosystem. Printing occurs at various specialized high-security printing works across Europe, including facilities in Germany, France, Italy, and Spain. Each note contains a serial number prefix that can sometimes identify the country whose central bank commissioned its printing.
