Ion is Greece's most iconic and historic chocolate brand, established in 1930. The company opened its first factory in Neo Faliro, Piraeus, where it remains headquartered to this day. Over the decades, Ion has become synonymous with Greek confectionery culture, particularly through its famous 'Ion Amigdalou' (almond milk chocolate) which was introduced in 1947.
While the company remained a family-owned business for over 90 years, a significant shift in ownership occurred recently. In 2022 and 2023, the Greek entrepreneur Spyros Theodoropoulos, through his investment vehicle Bespoke SGA Holdings, acquired a majority stake in the company. Despite this change in corporate ownership, the brand maintains its deep Greek roots and continues to manufacture its products exclusively within Greece, operating large production facilities in Athens and Arta.
