Bayerische Staatsbrauerei Weihenstephan is widely recognized as the world's oldest continuously operating brewery, with a history dating back to the year 1040. Located on the Weihenstephan hill in Freising, Bavaria, the brewery originated from a Benedictine monastery. Over nearly a millennium, it has evolved from a local monastic brewery into a globally renowned institution for brewing science and premium beverage production.

Today, the brewery is uniquely positioned as a state-owned enterprise under the Free State of Bavaria. While many historic European breweries have been acquired by multinational conglomerates, Weihenstephan remains independent of private global corporations. Its operations are closely tied to the Technical University of Munich (TUM), specifically its brewing school, making it a global hub for both brewing tradition and modern fermentation technology. All production is strictly centered in Freising, ensuring adherence to the Bavarian Purity Law (Reinheitsgebot).
