Its name is derived from the mountain climbing Yosemite Decimal System classification for technical climbing grades.

In 2011, Five Ten was acquired by the German sportswear giant Adidas. Since then, the brand has been integrated into the Adidas Terrex line, focusing on outdoor adventures. Manufacturing occurs across several countries where Adidas maintains its production facilities, primarily in Asia, including China, Vietnam, and Indonesia.
