Southern Comfort is a historic American liqueur with roots tracing back to 1874 in New Orleans, Louisiana. It was originally created by bartender Martin Wilkes Heron, who sought to make harsh unrefined whiskeys of the era more palatable by blending them with his own secret mixture of fruits and spices. Its unique flavor profile is defined by notes of peach, orange, and vanilla, bridged with a whiskey base.

Over the decades, the brand has grown into a globally recognized spirit. While it was owned by Brown-Forman for many years, it was acquired in 2016 by the Sazerac Company. Today, though deeply American in its branding and heritage, it is produced and bottled in several locations including the United States and the United Kingdom to serve various international markets.
