Flora ProActiv is a well-known functional food product originally developed to help consumers manage cholesterol levels through the inclusion of plant sterols. The brand has its roots in the Netherlands, emerging from the R&D labs of the Anglo-Dutch conglomerate Unilever in the late 20th century. It was specifically formulated as a spread that could provide a health benefit beyond basic nutrition, eventually becoming a staple in the margarine and spread category internationally.

In 2018, Unilever completed a significant corporate divestment, selling its global spreads business to KKR, a private equity firm. This led to the creation of Upfield, which now owns and operates the brand. Upfield has focused heavily on making the product range 100% plant-based and palm oil-free, as seen on the modern packaging. Manufacturing occurs across multiple global facilities, including major plants in the United Kingdom, Germany, and the Netherlands, to serve various regional markets.

Today, Flora ProActiv remains a flagship brand for Upfield, marketed under the Flora umbrella in some regions and as a standalone ProActiv brand in others. Since the acquisition, the company has transitioned from being a subsidiary of a massive consumer goods giant to becoming the world's leading producer of plant-based spreads, with its headquarters located in Amsterdam.
