Keen is a well-known American footwear and accessories brand that gained fame for its innovative Newport sandal, which featured a unique rubber toe guard. Founded in 2003, the brand has since expanded into a wide variety of outdoor gear, work boots, and casual shoes, emphasizing durability and hybrid design.

While the company is headquartered in Portland, Oregon, its manufacturing footprint is global. Keen famously operates a factory in Portland where it assembles many of its core products using materials sourced worldwide, a process it calls "American Built." However, the majority of its high-volume production occurs in specialized factories across Thailand, Vietnam, and Cambodia to meet international demand.

Keen remains a privately held, independent company. This independence has allowed the brand to focus heavily on its "Keen Effect" initiative, which prioritizes environmental conservation and social responsibility. Ownership remains within the founding family and private interests, making it one of the few large-scale footwear brands not owned by a major global conglomerate.
