Kidde is one of the world's largest manufacturers of fire safety products. The brand originated in 1917 when Walter Kidde founded the Walter Kidde Company, which produced the first integrated smoke detection and carbon dioxide fire extinguishing system for use on board ships. Since then, the brand became a household name for residential and commercial fire extinguishers and alarms.
Over the decades, Kidde has undergone several high-profile ownership changes, notably being part of United Technologies Corporation (UTC). In 2020, following the merger of United Technologies and Raytheon, Kidde became part of Carrier Global Corporation. As of 2024 and beyond, Kidde remains a key brand under Carrier's Fire & Security segment, which provides critical safety infrastructure globally. Manufacturing occurs across a global network, with major facilities located in the United States, Mexico, and China to serve international markets.
