Lagkagehuset is a premier Danish bakery chain that has grown from a single local bakery in Copenhagen into an international brand known abroad as Ole & Steen. The brand's origin dates back to 2008 when two independent bakers, Ole Kristoffersen and Steen Skallebæk, merged their successful businesses. The name 'Lagkagehuset' (The Layer Cake House) refers to the iconic building in Copenhagen where the first bakery was located.

While the products served in Danish locations are manufactured locally in Denmark to ensure freshness, the brand has been under the ownership of Nordic Capital, a private equity firm, since 2017. Nordic Capital holds the majority stake, overseeing its rapid expansion into markets like London and New York. The company continues to specialize in traditional Danish sourdough breads, pastries (Wienerbrød), and cakes, maintaining artisanal production techniques despite its corporate growth.
