The brand's history dates back to 1879 when the Nilsson family began baking in Älvsbyn, Northern Sweden. The modern brand was officially established in 1972 and remains deeply rooted in Norrland. All production takes place in Sweden at their modern, wind-powered bakeries in Älvsbyn and Bredbyn, ensuring a low carbon footprint.

The company is still owned and operated by the Nilsson family through Polarbrödsgruppen. They are renowned for their commitment to sustainability and traditional Swedish baking methods. Despite a major fire in 2020 which destroyed their main bakery, the company successfully rebuilt and continues to be a market leader in the Swedish bread industry.
