Schweppes is widely recognized as the world's first soft drink brand, having been founded in 1783 by Johann Jacob Schweppe, a German watchmaker and amateur scientist who developed a process to manufacture carbonated mineral water. Although the brand was established in Geneva, Switzerland, it moved its operations to London in 1792 to capitalize on the British market, quickly becoming a staple of British heritage. In 1836, the company was granted a Royal Warrant, an honor it has maintained for nearly two centuries.

The brand's ownership history is complex due to various mergers and regional divestments. In 1969, Schweppes merged with Cadbury to form Cadbury Schweppes. However, in 1999, The Coca-Cola Company acquired the rights to the Schweppes brand in many international markets, including the United Kingdom. Today, while the trademark is owned by The Coca-Cola Company in the UK, the products are manufactured and distributed by Coca-Cola Europacific Partners (CCEP) at their various bottling facilities across Great Britain, ensuring that this classic mixer remains locally produced for the British market.
