Philips lighting products, such as the LED bulb shown in the image, have a long history rooted in the Netherlands. Originally founded by Gerard Philips and his father Frederik in Eindhoven in 1891, the Philips brand became a global leader in lighting innovation. In recent years, the lighting division underwent a significant corporate restructuring to focus on specialized markets.
In 2016, the lighting business was spun off from Royal Philips into a separate entity called Philips Lighting, which was later renamed Signify N.V. in 2018. While the corporate name changed to Signify, the company continues to use the iconic Philips brand name for its lighting products under a long-term licensing agreement.
Today, manufacturing of Philips LED bulbs occurs across a global network of facilities to meet regional demands. Major production hubs are located in China, Poland, and Mexico, among others. Headquarters for the ultimate owner, Signify, remain in the Netherlands, maintaining the brand's Dutch heritage despite its global manufacturing and distribution footprint.
