Côte d'Or is one of the most iconic Belgian chocolate brands, founded in 1883 by Charles Neuhaus. The brand name and the famous elephant logo were inspired by the Gold Coast (now Ghana), which was the primary source of the cocoa beans used to create the chocolate's distinctively intense flavor. Its heritage as a national symbol of Belgian mastery in chocolatiering has remained central to its identity for over a century.

While the brand originated as a local Belgian enterprise in Schaerbeek, it has undergone several ownership changes in the modern era. In 1987, it was acquired by the Jacobs Suchard group, which eventually became part of Kraft Foods. Today, Côte d'Or is a key brand within the portfolio of Mondelēz International. Despite its global corporate ownership, a significant portion of production continues to take place in Belgium, particularly at the factory in Halle, ensuring the maintenance of its traditional quality and Belgian roots.
