Gevalia is a prominent coffee brand with deep Scandinavian roots, founded in Gävle, Sweden, in 1853 by Victor Theodore Engwall. For over a century, it remained a family-owned business, becoming the official purveyor to the Royal Court of Sweden. Its name is derived from the Latin word for its founding city, Gävle.

Today, Gevalia is owned by JDE Peet's, a global coffee and tea powerhouse headquartered in the Netherlands. Most of the coffee sold in the Nordic region continues to be roasted and packaged at the original Gevalia roastery in Gävle, maintaining its heritage. Ownership has transitioned through several major corporations, including Kraft Foods and Mondelez International, before becoming part of Jacobs Douwe Egberts (now JDE Peet's) through a merger of coffee interests.
