The brand HEXAL was founded in Tegernsee, Germany, in 1986 and became one of the leading generic drug manufacturers in the country. In 2005, HEXAL was acquired by the Swiss pharmaceutical giant Novartis and integrated into its Sandoz division. As of 2023, Sandoz transitioned into a fully independent, publicly traded company following a spin-off from Novartis.
