Skechers is a major American footwear brand that has evolved from a niche distributor into one of the world's largest athletic and lifestyle shoe companies. Founded in 1992 by Robert Greenberg and his son Michael Greenberg, the company is headquartered in Manhattan Beach, California. Initially known for utility boots and skate shoes during the grunge era, Skechers quickly diversified into a massive range of performance and casual footwear for men, women, and children.

While the brand is deeply rooted in Southern California culture, its manufacturing is entirely outsourced to a global network of independent factories. The vast majority of Skechers products are manufactured in Asian hubs, specifically China and Vietnam, with additional production facilities located in Indonesia, Cambodia, India, and Mexico. These strategic partnerships allow the brand to maintain high-volume production and cost-effectiveness while serving approximately 180 countries.

In a landmark shift for the company's corporate structure, Skechers announced in May 2025 that it would be acquired by the global investment firm 3G Capital. The deal, valued at approximately $9.4 billion, was finalized in late 2025, transitioning Skechers from a publicly traded entity to a privately held company. Despite this change in ultimate ownership, the founding Greenberg family retains a minority equity stake and continues to lead the daily operations, with Robert Greenberg serving as Chairman and CEO.
