Spontex is a globally recognized brand specializing in household cleaning tools, most famous for its invention of the cellulose sponge. Founded in 1932 in France, the brand name is a portmanteau of the words "sponge" and "textile." Over the decades, it has expanded its product line to include microfiber cloths, scouring pads, floor mops, and protective gloves, often featuring its iconic hedgehog mascot.

Today, Spontex products are manufactured in several locations across Europe to maintain its high quality and distribution efficiency. Its primary manufacturing site remains in Beauvais, France, where cellulose sponges are produced on an industrial scale. Additionally, other product lines such as sponge cloths and specialized cleaning tools are produced in facilities in Spain and other European locations.

Since 2010, the brand has been part of the American conglomerate Newell Brands, following the acquisition of the Jarden Corporation. As of 2026, Spontex continues to operate under the Home and Commercial Solutions segment of Newell Brands, maintaining its heritage of French engineering while benefiting from the global distribution network of its U.S.-based parent company.
