The brand is famous for its association with English tea culture and holds a Royal Warrant, having been a supplier to the British Royal Family since the reign of Queen Victoria.

While the brand's heritage is deeply rooted in the United Kingdom, Twinings sources its tea leaves from various regions globally—in this case, Sri Lanka (formerly Ceylon). For the Australian and European markets, the final blending and packaging are primarily completed in a large-scale manufacturing facility in Poland. Since 1964, the brand has been owned by Associated British Foods (ABF), a major British multinational food processing and retailing company that ensures the brand's global distribution and premium positioning.
