Eukanuba is a premium pet food brand that has become synonymous with high-performance nutrition for active and working animals. Founded in 1969 by Paul Iams, the brand was established to push the boundaries of canine nutrition beyond standard household diets. The name itself was inspired by a jazz-era slang term meaning 'the tops' or 'the best,' reflecting the founder's ambition for the product quality.
Over the decades, the brand has undergone significant corporate transitions. Originally part of the Iams Company, it was acquired by the multinational consumer goods giant Procter & Gamble (P&G) in 1999. In a major industry shift in 2014, Mars, Incorporated acquired the majority of P&G's pet care business, including Eukanuba (excluding European markets, which were acquired by Spectrum Brands). This move solidified Eukanuba's position within one of the world's largest pet care portfolios.
Eukanuba products are manufactured globally to serve diverse regional markets. In North America, the primary production hub is located in the United States, including a major facility in Leipsic, Ohio. Similarly, for the European market, production is centered in the Netherlands. The brand remains a leader in nutritional research, focusing on tailored recipes for different life stages and breed sizes.
