Brains Faggots

Originally created by Herbert Brain in 1925 in Bristol, these meat balls—made from seasoned pork offal and wrapped in caul fat—became a popular, affordable meal during the mid-20th century.

The brand's manufacturing remains concentrated in the United Kingdom, specifically produced at facilities in Hull and other regional sites following shifts in commercial ownership. Despite changes in the corporate landscape, the product maintains its traditional recipe and is famously served with West Country faggot sauce (a rich gravy).

Ownership of the Brains brand has transitioned significantly over the decades. Originally a local Bristol brand, it was acquired by Kraft Foods and later became part of the Hibernia Foods portfolio. Today, the brand is owned and operated by Pilgrim's Pride Corporation, specifically under its Pilgrim's Food Masters division, following the acquisition of Kerry Group's consumer foods meat and meals business in 2021. This places the ultimate ownership under JBS S.A., a global meat processing giant headquartered in Brazil.
