REWE Group (Corporate Identity)

REWE Group is a major German diversified retail and tourism group headquartered in Cologne. Established in 1927, it started as a cooperative (Revisionsverband der Westkauf-Genossenschaften) to help independent retailers pool their buying power. Today, it operates as a cooperative business model, making it one of the largest retail empires in Europe.

While REWE is primarily a retailer, many of its private-label products (such as Ja!, REWE Beste Wahl, and REWE Bio) are manufactured by a wide network of suppliers across Germany, Europe, and globally depending on the product category. The group owns several prominent brands including the REWE supermarkets, the discounter PENNY, and the DIY store Toom Baumarkt.

The organizational structure remains centered in Germany, functioning as a 'Genossenschaft' (cooperative). This means the ultimate ownership is held by its members, mostly independent retailers, which distinguishes it from publicly traded corporations. The group maintains a significant presence in Central and Eastern Europe through its various retail subsidiaries.
