KitKat is a globally recognized chocolate bar brand that originated in the United Kingdom. It was first introduced by Rowntree's of York in 1935 as Rowntree's Chocolate Crisp before being renamed KitKat in 1937.
Today, KitKat is primarily owned by the Swiss multinational food and beverage giant, Nestlé. However, there is a unique licensing arrangement in the United States where the brand is manufactured and distributed by The Hershey Company. For the rest of the world, Nestlé manages the manufacturing and distribution. Manufacturing takes place in several locations across the globe totaling over 15 countries to meet local and regional demand, including major facilities in the UK, Bulgaria, United Arab Emirates, and Japan.
