Becel Gold is a heart-healthy margarine alternative known for its buttery taste and high content of Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids. The brand Becel was originally developed by Unilever in the 1960s, following a request from the medical community for a cholesterol-lowering food product. The branding varies globally; it is known as Becel in Canada and much of Europe, and as Flora in the United Kingdom.
In 2018, Unilever sold its spreads division to KKR, which established Upfield (now Flora Food Group). The manufacturing for the German market, as seen on the label, is handled by Flora Food Group Germany GmbH, with production sites spread across Europe. The ultimate owner is Flora Food Group (formerly Upfield), headquartered in Amsterdam, Netherlands, which remains a leading global producer of plant-based spreads and cheeses.
