Captain Morgan is one of the world's most iconic spirits, primarily known for its spiced Caribbean rums. The brand's history traces back to 1944 when the Seagram Company, under the leadership of Samuel Bronfman, purchased the Long Pond distillery in Jamaica and acquired a recipe for spiced rum from two local pharmacists. The brand was named after the legendary 17th-century Welsh privateer and Governor of Jamaica, Sir Henry Morgan.

Over the decades, the production of Captain Morgan has transitioned across various Caribbean locations. For many years, much of the volume was produced in Puerto Rico. However, in 2012, production for the United States market shifted to a state-of-the-art distillery in St. Croix, United States Virgin Islands. For other global markets, different regional facilities and bottling plants are utilized, leading to a manufacturing footprint across multiple countries.

Today, the brand is owned by Diageo plc, a British multinational beverage company. Diageo was formed in 1997 through the merger of Grand Metropolitan and Guinness and has since grown into a global leader in the alcoholic beverages industry. Captain Morgan remains a core pillar of Diageo's portfolio, marketed in over 100 countries and consistently ranking as one of the best-selling rum brands worldwide.
