Sunlight is one of the world's oldest and most iconic soap brands, originally launched in the United Kingdom in 1884. It was the first packaged, branded laundry soap created by William Hesketh Lever, who founded Lever Brothers. The brand's early success laid the foundation for what would eventually become the global consumer goods giant, Unilever.
Today, Sunlight products are manufactured in multiple countries across the globe to serve local markets, including major production hubs in South Africa, Thailand, and Canada. While the product range has expanded from simple laundry bars to include dishwashing liquids and laundry detergents, the core identity remains focused on household cleaning and hygiene.
The brand is ultimately owned by Unilever, a British multinational company headquartered in London. Unilever maintains Sunlight as a key brand in its Home Care division, though in many European markets, it has been renamed or replaced by sister brands like Cif or Jif, while retaining the Sunlight name in Asia and Africa.
