Lexus is the luxury vehicle division of the Japanese automaker Toyota. The brand was created in the late 1980s following an internal directive to develop a prestige sedan that could compete globally. This project, known as Circle-F, eventually resulted in the launch of the LS 400 in 1989.

While Lexus remains deeply rooted in Japanese craftsmanship—specifically the 'Takumi' master artisan standards—its manufacturing footprint has expanded globally. The majority of production still takes place in Japan at plants such as Tahara, Kyushu, and Motomachi. However, to serve international markets more efficiently, Lexus also maintains large-scale assembly lines in Ontario, Canada (for the RX and NX models) and Kentucky, United States.

Today, Lexus is a wholly-owned business unit of Toyota Motor Corporation. It continues to operate as a global luxury icon, focusing on hybrid and battery-electric vehicle technology as part of Toyota's broader strategy for carbon neutrality by 2035 and beyond.
