Union Lager beer

Union Lager is one of the most iconic beer brands in Slovenia, with a history dating back to 1864 when the brewery was founded in Ljubljana. Known for its distinctive red packaging and dragon logo—a symbol of the city of Ljubljana—the brand has been a staple of Slovenian brewing culture for over 150 years.

Historically, Brewery Union was the main competitor to the Laško Brewery. However, after years of competition and market shifts, the two major Slovenian breweries merged. Today, the brand is part of Pivovarna Laško Union, which is the largest beverage producer in Slovenia. The production primarily continues within Slovenia, maintaining the local heritage and taste profile associated with the brand.

In terms of ultimate ownership, the brand underwent a significant transition in 2015 when the Dutch brewing giant Heineken N.V. acquired a majority stake in Pivovarna Laško. Consequently, Union is now a part of Heineken's extensive global portfolio, benefiting from international distribution networks while remaining deeply rooted in its Slovenian origin.
