Marmite is a quintessentially British savory spread, famous for its polarizing taste that inspired the iconic 'Love it or Hate it' marketing campaign. The product was originally discovered by German scientist Justus von Liebig, who found that brewer's yeast could be concentrated and bottled for consumption. Its commercial life began in 1902 when the Marmite Food Extract Company was established in Burton-upon-Trent, Staffordshire, where the main factory remains today to take advantage of the local breweries' yeast supply.
Currently, Marmite is owned by the multinational consumer goods giant Unilever. While the brand has global recognition, its production heart remains in the United Kingdom, specifically in the Burton-upon-Trent facility. The 'Squeezy' variant seen in the image was introduced to provide a more convenient, less messy alternative to the traditional glass jar, catering to modern kitchen needs while maintaining the original recipe rich in B vitamins.
