Strepsils is a globally recognised brand of antiseptic throat lozenges used to relieve mouth and throat infections. The brand was originally developed by Boots the Chemists in Nottingham, United Kingdom, in 1958. Initially launched with two active ingredients (amylmetacresol and dichlorobenzyl alcohol), it has since expanded into a wide variety of sugar-free and flavoured formulations.
Today, Strepsils is manufactured in multiple locations worldwide, including the United Kingdom and Thailand, to serve international markets. The brand underwent a significant change in ownership in 2006 when Reckitt Benckiser (now Reckitt) acquired the Boots Healthcare International division. Reckitt, a British multinational consumer goods company, remains the ultimate owner and distributor, managing the brand from its headquarters in Slough, England.
