Drum is a classic brand of fine-cut hand-rolling tobacco that originated in the Netherlands. It was first developed by the Douwe Egberts corporation in 1952. Known for its distinct flavor profile achieved through a blend of dark Kentucky burley and bright Virginia tobaccos, it quickly became one of the most popular rolling tobaccos globally.
Following a series of corporate acquisitions, the brand's ownership shifted significantly. In the late 1990s, Imperial Brands (formerly Imperial Tobacco) acquired the brand from Douwe Egberts (which was then part of Sara Lee Corporation). Today, Drum is a flagship product in Imperial Brands' portfolio, sold in over 45 countries.
While its roots are firmly Dutch, manufacturing occurs across various facilities owned by Imperial Brands, primarily in the Netherlands and the United Kingdom. In the United States, the brand is distributed under license by Republic Tobacco, but global ownership remains under the British multinational Imperial Brands plc.
