CLIF Builders falls under the broader CLIF Bar portfolio, originally created by Gary Erickson in 1992 in the United States. The Builders sub-brand was specifically designed to cater to consumers seeking high-protein snacks for muscle recovery and performance. These bars are manufactured in multiple facilities, primarily located in Twin Falls, Idaho, and Indianapolis, Indiana, as well as through partnerships in Canada.

In a landmark deal in 2022, the Clif Bar & Company was acquired by Mondelez International. This acquisition integrated the brand into one of the world's largest confectionery and snack food conglomerates. Today, Mondelez oversees the global distribution and strategic growth of the CLIF brand, maintaining its market leadership in the energy and protein bar categories.
