Converse is an iconic American brand founded in 1908 by Marquis Mills Converse in Malden, Massachusetts. Originally known for rubber-soled footwear, the brand became a cultural staple with the introduction of the All Star basketball shoe in 1917, which later became the legendary 'Chuck Taylor All Star'.

While the brand's heritage is rooted firmly in the United States, its manufacturing processes have evolved significantly over more than a century. After facing financial difficulties in the early 21st century, Converse was acquired by Nike, Inc. in 2003. Since then, it has operated as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Nike.
