Mapquest Maps and Navigation

Mapquest is a historic pioneer in the digital mapping and web navigation space, launched in 1996 as one of the first consumer-facing online mapping services. Originally developed by GeoSystems Global Corporation, it became a household name for providing driving directions and interactive maps long before the dominance of mobile navigation apps.

Over the decades, ownership of Mapquest has shifted through several major corporate acquisitions. It was notably acquired by AOL (America Online) in 1999, which later merged into Verizon Media. In 2015, the brand was acquired by System1, an omnichannel customer acquisition marketing platform.

While Mapquest is a digital service rather than a physical product, its software development, data processing, and headquarters are based in the United States. Today, it operates as a subsidiary of System1, continuing to provide web-based maps, business locators, and route planning tools to both individual consumers and enterprise clients.
