Häagen-Dazs Salted Caramel ice cream

Founded in the Bronx, New York, in 1960 by Reuben and Rose Mattus, Häagen-Dazs was created with a name intended to sound European and high-end, despite being a purely American invention. The brand became famous for its dense texture and lack of stabilizers, eventually expanding from a few specialized flavors to a global household name.

Ownership of the brand is currently split based on geography. In the United States and Canada, the brand is licensed to Froneri, a joint venture between Nestlé and PAI Partners. In the rest of the world, including Europe and Asia, the brand and its manufacturing facilities are owned and operated by General Mills. Most products sold in international markets are manufactured at the brand's facility in Tilloy-lès-Mofflaines, France.
