Ron Zacapa Centenario 23 Solera Gran Reserva

Ron Zacapa is a premium rum originally created in 1976 to celebrate the centenary of the foundation of the town of Zacapa in Guatemala. It is distinctive for being made from 'virgin sugar cane honey' rather than molasses. The rum is unique for its 'Sistema Solera' aging process, which takes place in the Guatemalan highlands at an altitude of 2,300 meters above sea level, often referred to as 'The House Above the Clouds'. This high-altitude aging slows the maturation process, allowing for deep flavor development in various cask types, including American whiskey and Sherry barrels.

While the brand has deep Guatemalan roots and continues to be produced there, its global distribution and ownership shifted significantly in the 21st century. In 2008, the British multinational beverage giant Diageo entered into a strategic joint venture with Industrias Licoreras de Guatemala. By 2011, Diageo acquired a 50% stake in the brand and took over global distribution, later becoming the primary controlling interest behind the brand's international presence.
