Hakle is one of Germany's most iconic and historic hygiene brands, established in 1928 by Hans Klenk in Ludwigsburg. It became famous for introducing one of the first rolls of toilet paper with a defined number of sheets. For decades, the brand has been synonymous with quality and comfort in the German household market.
While the brand was previously owned by global corporations like Kimberly-Clark, Hakle underwent several ownership changes in the 21st century. After a period of financial restructuring and insolvency proceedings in late 2022, the brand was acquired by some of its existing management and the intermediate investor group around the Sofia-based company 'Wepa' or private equity interests at various times; however, the most recent stable acquisition was by the private equity firm Aurelius and eventually the Hakle GmbH entity itself recovered under new management. Manufacturing remains focused at its historic site in Düsseldorf-Reisholz, Germany, maintaining its 'Made in Germany' heritage.
As of the current outlook for 2026, the brand focuses strictly on sustainable, high-end paper products for the European market.
